"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit."
— Galatians 5:22–25
For our community Art Exhibit this fall, we will be exploring the fruit that is cultivated in us through as we walk in the Spirit. When we hang our trust on Jesus and become alive to his Spirit's work in us, a deep cultivation begins. The Scriptures say that we will produce healthy "fruit of the Spirit," rather than unhealthy fruit (Galatians 5). Good fruit is produced only by a work of the Holy Spirit, but we do have to choice to welcome the Spirit's cultivation in us, and as we hear elsewhere in the Scriptures to “walk in the Spirit.” What does it mean to be filled and cultivated by the Spirit? How do we become a full and healthy orchard, as persons, as families, and as a community?
This will be an informal show, on display in our lobby and auditorium for three weeks from Sunday, October 19 – Sunday, November 2.
We will be hosting a reception for this art exhibition on Sunday November 2 (directly after the third service). All artists participating in the exhibit are encouraged to attend, and there will be space during this reception for performing artists (musicians, poets, dramatists, etc.) to share their work. We look forward to this time together to appreciate this exhibit and to receive our community's creative reflection on the work of the Spirit in our lives!
