One of the things the gospels are trying to get across to us is that if we want to know what God is like we should look no further than Jesus—which was and is still a shocking thought. Look at this man, in his authority, in his humility, in his generosity, even in his self-imposed vulnerability, and you’ll find yourself looking at the real God. This fall, we’ll keep this firmly in mind as we see Jesus dealing with the corrupt higher-ups; teaching his disciples about what to expect of the world; teaching his disciples what it means to truly follow him; and finally, demonstrating for us a model of prayerful trust on the very worst night of his life—the night before his death.
