Luke 22:54–65
Peter Denies Jesus

We're arriving at the dramatic conclusion of the Gospel of Luke. Jesus has been the central figure in the narrative thus far, though all kinds of other characters surround him. Chief among those characters are Jesus’ own twelve disciples, who often look less like his pupils than we might hope. The gospels don’t seem to be all that worried about maintaining a façade of greatness around Jesus’ inner circle, of making his disciples look good, in fact — it’s often the opposite. Over again, the gospel writers separate Jesus from everyone else in the narrative. Only Jesus’ character and competency will make the difference.
